Belfast School Song
Belfast School wanted a new school song. They wanted a song that was catchy, easy to learn and one that would reflect what Belfast School stands for. They also wanted a song that would be timeless so that it could be used for many years to come. A group of approx. 20 students were put together to write this song and included representatives from each and every class in the school plus both the principal and vice principal. “I Believe in Belfast” was born.

Kindergarten: I’m Happy Being Me
The kindergarten kids were about to start a study unit dealing with self-discovery. The teachers wanted a simple song that would allow students to focus on how special each one of them is. We had enough ideas for 10+ versus but narrowed it down to just three.

Grade 1-2: The Fancy Dancey Colourful Ball
The Grade 1’s and 2’s were working on a unit about colour and the teachers wanted to use music to make it easier for the students to learn and remember the primary colors, secondary colours and the colours of the rainbow. The idea of the primary colours going to a ball and mixing to create the secondary colors was brilliant. The use of the waltz beat put the icing on the cake.

Grade 3-4: The Six Regions Song
The Grade 3’s and 4’s were studying Alberta and decided to focus on the six regions of their beautiful province. Each verse is about a different region and includes the specific name of that region. It then goes on to identify the most important aspect of that region. It is hoped that this song will make it easier for everybody to remember what Alberta’s six regions are and their importance to the province.

Grade 5-6: Belfast Brings the Best Out in You
This song was mostly written by the Grade 5’s and 6’s after the initial songwriting workshop. The idea for the song came from a seed planted by one of the teachers who shared his experience with a new student that came to Belfast School. Because of the positive welcome he received by the other students, he was able to flourish as a person and fellow student. This is a great song showing just how compassionate the students of Belfast are towards each other.
